Founded in 2019, the Department of Performing and Digital Arts (DPDA) is part of the School of Arts which was founded in 2003, with the simultaneous establishment of the Department of Theatrical Studies (DTS), of the University of the Peloponnese, based in Nafplio (Greece). The coming of the DPDA in the map of tertiary education of Greece aims to explore the hybrid intersections of performing and digital arts. In particular, DPDA Undergraduate Study Guide aims to nurture and promote knowledge in scientific, artistic and technological subject matters concerning the performing arts placing emphasis on their dynamic connections and relation with various cultural aspects, social applications, technology and education. DPDA constitutes the first academic department in Greece, which focuses on emerging/hybrid approaches of contemporary art and research, ones that deal with the dynamic intersections of performing (performance, dance, theatre) and digital arts (digital performance, virtual reality, interactive/digital media-technologies).
The University of the Peloponnese was founded by Presidential Decree in 2000 and began operating in 2002 based in Tripoli. It is active in the 5 capitals of the Prefectures of the Peloponnese Region (Tripoli, Corinth, Nafplio, Sparta, Kalamata) and in Patras. It consists of 9 Schools and 22 Departments. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies as well as lifelong learning training activities. The main goal of the University of the Peloponnese is the creative contribution to the development of higher education in the Greek region with high quality standards that meet the content of studies, research and teaching to the requirements of a modern academic institution both national and international.
