MSc in “Mechanical Design using Digital Technologies”

In the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Peloponnese, from the academic year 2022-2023, the above Master’s Program (M.P.) operates in accordance with the provisions of Law 4485/2017 (Government Gazette 114 t.A’/04-08- 2017) and the no. 29/20-06-2022 decision of the 217th meeting of the Senate of the University of the Peloponnese.

The M.P. awards a Master’s Degree (MSc) in the field of Mechanical Design using Digital Technologies .

Purpose

The MSc industrially oriented program entitled “Mechanical Design using Digital Technologies” is part of the strategic planning of the University of Peloponnese.

It has as its object postgraduate education , high specialization and research in the usage and development of digital-computer tools for analysis, study and design, which find application both at an industrial and a research level in the wider field of mechanical engineering.

This program is designed to transfer the necessary knowledge to the Mechanical Engineer so that he can, in a reliable and efficient way, analyze, study and design materials, structural elements, constructions, systems and production methods using appropriate computational methods and tools.

The M.P. has the main objective of connecting the specialized knowledge in cutting-edge technologies that will be provided with the needs of businesses and production. The achievement of the higher goal will be achieved mainly through the Master’s Thesis, the subject of which will be a Mechanical Engineering problem that will be of interest to industry and production .

Completing the M.P. the graduate will be able to:

  • Solves continuum problems through computational engineering .
  • Constructs, adapts, uses the “Finite Element” and “Boundary Element” calculation methods
  • Studies, characterizes and predicts the behavior of materials and structures through the digitization and modeling of theoretical and experimental data (plastic behavior, fracture response, thermal behavior, creep behavior, etc.).
  • Prepares integrated Electro-mechanical studies through professional software packages .
  • Models and manages supply chain problems .
  • Models and optimizes problems of fluid mechanics, energy and environmental systems .
  • Uses the “BIM” (Building Information Modeling) method for the design and management of industrial applications and IT projects.
  • Designs digitally integrated mechanical constructions .

Knowledge, Skills, Professional Prospects

The program provides students with a broad set of high-level knowledge and skills that systematically strengthens their professional prospects in relevant international and national bodies, in the public and private sectors, in NGOs, in bodies of society, entrepreneurship, etc.

Number of admissions, tuition fees

The number of admissions to the M.P. is limited to a maximum of twenty (20) students per year. For the period of initial operation of the M.P., the amount of tuition fees is set at €1,800 for each student for the entire study cycle (3 semesters). The amount of tuition fees can be adjusted by decision of the competent bodies. Tuition fees are paid by students in three (3) equal semester installments at the beginning of the respective semester. Students who meet the criteria defined in article 35 of Law 4485/17, as it applies, are exempt from tuition fees.

Courses

At the beginning of each semester and before the initiation of the courses, the timetable of the current period is posted on the M.P. website of the Department, which includes the teaching days and hours of the courses, the dates of other events or obligations, the start and end dates of the teaching periods, the examination periods, holidays, etc.

All educational activities (eg, teaching and examination of courses, assignment submission and examination of postgraduate theses) take place within the time frame of the annual academic calendar set by the Senate.

Lessons are taught in person. On-line education methods may also be used, in a percentage not exceeding 35%, in accordance with the provisions of paragraph 3, article 30 of Law 4485/2017. In particular, on-line means are planned to be used for a maximum of 1-2 lectures per course per semester, in order for the participation of distinguished professors and researchers, whose physical presence cannot be achieved.
